ONLINE JOB ADS IN DECEMBER UP 52% FROM LAST YEAR
Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, and Sales Representatives Top Jobs in December
MONTGOMERY – Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Labor’s Labor Market Information (LMI) Division shows that as of December 2021, the yearly comparison of online job ads is 97,405, up 52% from December 2020. The monthly total of online job ads for December 2021 is up 0.1% with 23,765 new online ads.
The five occupations with the most online job ads continue to be for registered nurses, retail salespersons, sales representatives, supervisors of retail salespersons, and customer service representatives with 15,881 ads placed for those occupations in December.
The HWOL data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state’s free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.
Seventeen percent of job ads have salaries of $75,000 and above; 15% have salaries in the $50-75,000 range; 22% have salaries in the $35-49,000 range; and 46% have salaries of $35,000 or under.
The top two employers posting the most online ads in December were Huntsville Hospital with 1,499 and UAB Health System with 1,425. The rest of the top 10 were: University of South Alabama (771), University of Alabama at Birmingham (769), Auburn University (545), Lowe’s (522), Encompass Health (502), Regions (493), Baptist Health (421), and DCH Health System with (420).
Heating and Air Conditioning Mechanics are the focus of this month’s in-depth analysis by the LMI division. The median annual salary is advertised as $38,878 with 25% earning more than $45,839. In the last 12 months there were 1,123 online ads for this occupation.
Heating and Air Conditioning Mechanics install or repair heating, central air conditioning, HVAC, or refrigeration systems, including oil burners, hot-air furnaces, and heating stoves. They typically require training in vocational schools, related on-the-job experience, or an associate degree.
